Yesterday, Rutger and I went to Bruges to try and get some sigs from the cast from the upcoming Hollywood-production "In Bruges".
When we arrived and walked to the centre of Bruges (De Markt) we imediately saw the Christmas-decorations all over the place.
When you walked in Bruges you saw a lot of these:
We decided to go to the hotel where the cast was staying (The Tuilerieën) first. We came in the street where the hotel was, and we saw fake-snow sprayed onto a wall near the water:
Our guess was that they had just filmed a scene (a day befor or something) or they're gonna shoot one today. So we walked to the hotel (a couple of meters further in the street) and in front of the hotel we saw a whole parade of movie-cranes and trucks with movie-gear in them:
They were being guarded by one man. We made contact with this guy and he could tell us a lot of cool stuff about the filming. And he told us the exact locations where they had shoot some scenes. He told us in which car (brand, colour) Colin was driven around in, and he also told us that the entire cast is staying at the Tuilerieën.
After that chat we went into the hotel to try and get some info from the guy at the desk. But he pretty much told us "They are not staying here, I can not say anything". So we decided to go and visited the locations that the security-guy mentioned. First stop: Location where they filmed a part of a boat-chase:
After this we followed a route, that is in the film when Colin is beïng chased by Ralph Fiennes (probably) in an action-scene (with shooting and stuff):
The route took us to the centre of Bruge again (De Markt) where they also filmed some stuff. One of the scenes was a guy who was dropped of the church-tower. According to the security-guy they used pig-blood and pieces of meat to make it incredibly realistic. Now you can see a piece of wood on the ground at the place where the guy did fall, because they had to pull some stones out to make the ground suitable for filming:
After out visit to these locations we went back to the hotel and Rutger got the idea to look at the back of the hotel. So we did.
At the back you can look into the backyard of the hotel where's also a small parking-space. On the parking there we saw the car that Colin was transported in:
We walked back to the front of the hotel, talked with the security-guy a little more. Watched at the movie-cranes more closely, and noticed this paper on all of the cranes:
Then we noticed that some trucks arrived a bit further (at the snowy walls-part) and they had set-pieces in them:
They begun to tear down the lanterns on that place and replace them with other ones:
(remember this boat carefully! I'll get back on this later!)
A bit later in the afternoon they started to place fences to let the movie-people work without being disturbed all the time by passing cars or pedestrians. They also began to place the things where they put the camera's on:
When it became around 5.30pm they turned on the big lights on the moviecranes at the hotel and starting to pull off any traffic-signes in the area where they would shoot (because of reflections and stuff):
(it was already pretty dark here, so had to take the shot with nightview)
A bit more was going on now at the location where they gonna should the scene. More people came, more stuff came...
Around 6pm or 6.30pm they began a little rehearsel with the boat I mentioned a bit back. A guy was laying on the boat while another guy was driving (!?) the boat forwards and back:
And then they tested the snow-cannons a bit:
All of a sudden Rutger said: There's Colin!! And we saw a guy with a purple umbrella walked across the street from where we were standing and I said "No way, that's not him" (I didn't get a good look at the guy). But Rutger knew for sure that it was Colin so he run after the guy. I imediately runned after Rutger as well. And within a couple of seconds we where about 1 meter from where Colin was getting his make-up done. Some lady wanted us out of there, but we said we wanted to get his autograph. But no chance.. the lady (and 2 other guys) sent us out of the make-up area. But we saw Colin from up-close!! It was forbidden to take photo's during the filming of the scene, and it was also forbidden to take photo's of Colin while he was in make-up. But I tried anyway, I put the enightview on so that my camera didn't have to flash. But unfortunately it is nearly impossible to take a good picture in nightview, without something to place the camera on so that it won't move. The result:
You can see the purple umbrella, with under it a pink (face-like) spot. Now that's Colin! (it was the best shot I could take, a lot of people were walking in front of me. And it was forbidden to walk any closer then this.
So at the end of the day we didn't get any sigs, but it sure was awsome to experience the shooting of a Hollywood-production like this and to see Colin briefly that close. It was a great day Rutger!
Maybe I will go again in the next month, but then I'll go in the weekends.
