Ray Bolger was a great actor that became famous for playing the Scarecrow in the original The Wizard of Oz, the 1939 version that starred Judy Garland. He guest starred as Vector on the Battlestar Galactica episode Greeting From Earth (together with another great actor: Bobby Van, on the left)
Ray sadly passed away in 1987 at the age of 83. I couldn't believe my joy when I saw HIS original script up on eBay for just $0.99! I never thought to EVER get a Galactica item signed by Ray Bolger. The auction stated it had his name written on the cover (which wasn't seen on the partial scan they showed). The seller got the item from Ray's niece and I tended to believe her story since she had plenty of details (it was just $0.99 what risk would I take, right?) . She said the script contained no notes.
I didn't dare to ask any further because I knew Ray had a small part at the end of the episode and notes could be easily overlooked. Why not ask to look there, what harm could it do, right? Well, an original Ray Bolger handwritten and signed letter easily goes for $1,500 so you can see why I didn't want to wake up anybody!!! Ray's signature alone already goes for $600-800 and this also had his name wirtten on it. I told all my fellow fans (like Mike), that this was mine and not to bid against me. It quietly ended at $0.99 without a fuss or other bidders (while my max was $350!).
When the script arrived I jump in the room like a bouncing ball, because the script did contain notes and most importantly the written name was written by him and in fact comes very close to his actual signature. I guess you need to be lucky at some point in your life and this was one of many lately.
Here's the script. It shows the cover and a underlined page with small note. I enlarged the name which is in fact a very clear written signature. His actual signature is a kind of rushed version of these same writings.
