Maarten and I went to the speed skating marathon today, and one of the guests there was Falko Zandstra. Unfortunately, there are NO decent sized images of him available on the net, so I asked him to sign the program booklet:
The main guest however was Johan Olav Koss. I remember him winning the 4 gold medals in 1994 (pre-"klapschaats") at the Lillehammer Olympics. Everyone felt like these were unbreakable records, and Koss was the skating God in person. Now, he promotes a charity foundation, Right to Play, that encourages children to do sports, and helps them where no facilities are available.
I was very happy to meet him, since he is one of the speed skating greats.
We got two pics, one a promo pic from the charity, the other a collage of skating photos that were on the net.
Btw: it was COLD in the skating hall...
