Ok....I'm PUMPED!
I just saw Tempus Fugit
IMDB
Won 7(!!!) Awards but is sadly hardly known.
Here we go:
In this spanish (catalunya) movie it's about Ramón; a geeky nobody who's in love with a woman he's afraid to say anything to.
His neighbour Terrades is a fanatic FC Barcelona fan, highly psyched because Barcelona has to play Real Madrid in the Champions League final (this guy rocks: he has a Johan Cruyff shrine, and his dog is named 'Koeman').
One day, Ramón is visited by Andros, a guy from the future who tells him that the world will be destroyed by nuclear weapons. Only Ramón can stop this from happening.
Andros travels through time by taking pills....pills which are found by Terrades, who travels to the future.....only to find out that Barcelona loses the final! With 0-10!
While Terrades tries to prevent this, Ramón has to save the world. How will all this end?
All this may sound weird, but it's not. Alternate realities, excellent script....truly magical movie.
It sounds thats it's 100% about football, but it isn't. Proving it isn't would ruin the movie for those who haven't seen it!
Enric Folch, the director, wrote the script after seeing 'the Time Machine' (the remake: 2002) and thought it was crap (which it is). He wanted to make the opposite of this, in which he has HIGHLY succeeded!.
Made for just under € 600.000, this movie is the 2nd best I've seen this year (StarWars was the best).
This movie was shown at lots of Festivals, including Amsterdam in 2004, where I missed it. For 1,5 years I've been trying to find it on DVD, and 2 weeks ago it was finally released!!!!!
Cool fact: the movie won the 'Silver Scream Award' at the Fantastic Film festival in Amsterdam, ending in front of movies like Kill Bill 2!
Tarantino, eat your heart out! Folch has produced a way better movie than Kill Bill!
O, for movie-geeks (like myself): this one has the best StarWars reference ever! Not in a comedic way, but in a sweet & loving way. Just watch the movie to find out...just be amazed.....
Rating: ***** (out of five)
Terrades goes Barca: red & blue
