I decided to download this show so I could get the full picture of the BSG universe and well....euh... Right now I'm watching a piece where a cylon centurion and a humanoid cylon are in the backseat of a car with a guy dressed up like a clown and a woman as a vampire with disco inferno on the background....... OMFG........ So anyone else on this board ever brave enough to watch this?

Sure I watched in 1980, when I was 11. I didn't like it as much at the time as the original, but there was really no competition at the time.

Well some Galactica is better than no Galactica I always say. But I wouldn't recommend it to my friends.
However, the last episode "Return of Starbuck" is a must see episode and worthy of the original series.

Yes, I saw it all yesterday and the last one, the return of Starbuck, was really funny - in a good way- poor Cy lol.
I must shamefully admit that I kinda liked some of it but dr. Z? And the magnificent boyscouts? What the hell were they thinking?
I wasn't around untill 1983 so could anyone fill me in on how the 1980 show was welcomed at first?
Oh and I was very surprised they had the first humanoid cylon in this show. Didn't know that detail.

Well as you know, at a million dollars an episode, the network decided it was too expensive.
But then the outroar over the popularity of the show, they decided to water it down and cheapen it.
I was 9, so though I missed the majority of the main cast, I thought it was better than nothing. But for the most part the fans had the same reaction you did. "What in the Hell were they thinking". So it didn't last past one season.
I haven't seen the show for quite some time, so could you tell me about the humanoid cylon? I don't remember it.

It's in the episodes: The Day the Cylons landed part one and two.
A cylon raider gets shot down with the mechanical cylons in it and it also contains two humanoid cylons. One centurion and one humanoid cylon survive and the ship selfdestructs. They want to send a signal to their fellow cylons and try to find a radiostation. They are walking alongside the highway and thy get picked up by a woman who is dressed like a vampire and a guy (same guy who provides the voice for K.I.T.T) who's dressed as a clown with disco inferno playing on the car radio. It's Halloween and they're going to a party and he happens to be the radiodirector or something. Anyway, the humans think the cylons have cool costumes blablabla and you see them mingle with the humans on the party. A microwave sets of the centurion and they take someone hostage blablabla go to the radiostation where Troy and Dillon are also going. One of them shoots the human cylon down and the centurion malfunctions and picks up the humanoid cylon and jumps of the roof and eh.. that's about it.

I *tried* to watch the first episode, but had to stop after they rode "flying" motorcycles.

LOL I hear this quite a lot from old school fans. I'm more bothered with dr. Z and all that crap. What's wrong with the flying motorcycles? (other than that it looks like utter crap since they're turning one way and the background doesn't compute lmao!)

I thought the super cycles were cool looking. But as Martine said, Dr. Z was a pompous know it all who you just wanted to smack up side the head. Regardless of which of the two actors played him.
I didn't care for the time travel either.

Well it was a culmination of many other things that happened before that scene, but still....

Just watch the Starbuck episode then. It comes close enough to the original series.

I did irritate me that the voice of the Cylon in the Return of Starbuck was done by another actor, but other than that it was a great episode. They even stole this script and filmed it a couple of years later as "Enemy Mine" (Wolfgang Petersen, starring Lou Gossett jr. and Dennis Quaid).
Before anyone goes any further putting down the flying cylcles. These were actually made for the original Galactica 1978 series. They were for an episode that came very close to filming, but got cancelled in the last minute. So don't paint them off as cheap shit, because they weren't. Sure, the way they were filmed and used was cheap but don't mess with the cycles.
And about the episodes... As Mike said: better some Galactica as no Galactica! I liked some of the episodes. And yes the humanoid Cylons came from this show... what do you think? New Galactica steals just as bad from other shows as any other new show. You should watch/download "Space: Above and Beyond"... That will also really be an eye opener. I can pinpoint so many things from that show that are now in New Galactica, even complete storylines were stolen from "Space: Above and Beyond" and refilmed within New Galactica.
Mike got the series for his birthday and just viewed it... He will agree...
By the way: Starbuck marooned on a planet after a dogfight with just a Cylon to patch up... Hmmm... Sounds familiar...

They never used ground based vehicles except for that one track based one.

Sure, the way they were filmed and used was cheap but don't mess with the cycles. That's what I said. I don't mind the flying cycles myself in the 1980 show. However, I agree with Joel. It has no place on the original and I'm glad they backed out of it. Just because something originally came from the 1987 show doesn't mean it's automatically a good thing. The original has it's flaws as did the 1980 and the new one. God..some relationships are really contrived.... With the 1980 show is the biggest gripe I had with dr. Z.... I can't get over that one. They made Adama look like an incompetent person who couldn't do anything without this 14 year old wizkid. Such a shame. And too many boyscout eps (yeah yeah I know why they did it) But other than that I generally like the show. I definately agree on new shows borrowing stuff from other sources but it's not just the recent stuff that did it. The original show borrowed from Star Wars for example. I love Space: Above and Beyond and I don't need to download it since I was a loyal viewer when it was aired on Dutch tv for the first time and James Morrison aka T.C. McQueen rules!!! I was so sad when it got cancelled... idiots! Yes I know. I read it ;D Yes just like the Cain trilogy, the search for Earth and lots and lots more. But then again it is called BSG and some of the old stories are definately worked into the new show which I very much like.

I thought they ripped it from The Terminator. Which the 1980 show probably had in the back of their minds. You mean the movie that came out in 1984? I doubt they used their timemachine to steal a plotline...
