There were four actors I wanted to meet at CreationUK, and the last one was Walter Koenig. He of course had a big part in the original series.

I saw him at a con in Cleveland. I agree that he was a great guy. He was telling us about how it was a bit sad that they were always getting overshadowed by Shatner/Nimoy/Kelly. That before he did the movie "Undiscovered Country" where they have dinner with the Klingons, that he was offered such a small amount of money that he finally just said enough and said he wanted so much. That they said something in the biz that means don't expect us to call back. But they caved and he's in the movie.
He said it was funny/sad shooting the movie and they kept giving Shatner more screen time. That during the scene where the cloaked Klingon ship fires at the Enterprise for the first time and Koenig says "Incoming", that the scene was supposed to be shot showing him the whole time. And then Shatner decided that they should pan to Kirk before the Enterprise got hit, and that they ended up shooting it that way and using it.

As nice a guy as he is though, he really hasn't proved himself that much as an actor. As much over the top as Shatner is, he is absolutely more fun to watch.

But he did have the whole 'Nookleer Wessels' scene and subplot in The Voyage Home.

I agree that he's no Shatner. Shatner has become so over the top that he parodies himself. If you watch the game show "Show me the money" it's so funny. They stop the show at a certain point and start dancing.
My favorite Checkov quote is in the same movie I mentioned when he says "Guess who's coming to dinner".
