Hi,
I've been only to one Con before (Echobase) and I was wondering what the avarage signing price these days is.
I remember it was like 15euro for a signed pic. and around 5-10 euro for a autograph on your own item. What do they normally charge these days ?

In the Netherlands it's mostly € 15 per item. Most of the times, it doesn't matter if you bring your own item or take a photo from the actor. However, still some offer a discount. Big name actors (like Anthony 'C-3PO' Daniels) charge more. (he was € 25)
In the UK, it's 15 GBP +- € 22,50). At Showmasters events it also doesn't matter whether you bring your own item. Hotshot guests (Sean 'Samwise Gamgee' Astin for example) charge 20 GBP (+- € 30)
The good old days of cheap autographs are gone...I remember the very first StarCon in 1998...for an autograph + photo you paid 25 guilders (+- € 11,50) and just for the signature on your own item 10 guilders (+- € 4,50). It could also have been 15 guilders by the way....it's been a long time!
Hope this answered your question.

When I started collecting autographs around 1997 prices started at 15 NLG (5 NLG on a item of your own), but 25 NLG did became the standard for a long time. With the Euro transition also came a light price increase due to rounding off. 15 euro is standard for the "normal" names, 20-25 for the larger ones. In the UK Carrie Fisher asked 25 GBP for an autograph, and if I'm not mistaken Captain Prick asked 30. Anyway, prices have gone up and yes, nowadays it doesn't matter if you bring an item of your own. You pay the same price regardlessly. This is probably due to the fact it is so easy to make your own photos digitally. And who says actors are stupid?

Another reason that prices have gone up is undoubtedly the fact that auto-collecting has become more and more popular....there are more conventions, more dealers....when there is demand, prices always go up.

Shatner also asked 25, Showmasters has never had anyone charging more than that. If they did, it'd have to be Harrison Ford I guess...
For events like Autographica, they have ultra-rare guests, they will charge more. Buzz Aldrin (2nd person to walk on the moon) charged 100 pounds (+-150 euro). But come on, he was on the MOON! And he personalised as well. Dealers sell his sigs for over 300 euros sometimes, so 150 was a bargain if you're interested in him.

Well, 20 pounds used to be the limit for Showmasters. Even Elijah Wood was "only" 20 pounds. Carrie Fisher was the first to break that barrier and well, it will only be a matter of time before someone will break the 30 GBP one. And in the end it doesn't matter who it is or how big his or her star is. It all comes down to how valuable an agent think his client is...

It depends on the organisation, the agents and the guests.

I miss the good old days 25 guilders and 10 for a loose signature. I agree with Martine that it depens on all the people who are involved.
High prices sometimes make it easy for me: if its not worth it for me I do not buy. And I am still surprised that one second on screen (star wars) actors charge the same as others.
Where does it end? Check out the new SW guests on the upcoming Empire day, to me they are worth 5 pounds max.

Also guest tend to compare their prices on events. If their are different castmembers of the same show and one asks 20 euros, the others with similar parts usually go along with that even if their intention was to only ask 15 euros. They go with the flow (It's seldom the other way around where they all ask cheap prices).
By the way: in the US $15-$20 is very common. So buying signatures at US dealers (sometimes personalized at pre-orders) can sometimes be cheaper than to get in person at a European con!!!
