Hello everybody!
I'm a long-time member over at rebelscum and just found this site. I'm really impressed with the amount of information here and I think you guys might be able to help me out with something that I've been wanting to do for awhile. I'd like to make my own 8x10's of background characters that do not have photos available over at Official_Pix. What's the best way to take screen caps from your DVD's? Do you have a screen capture program that works well?
Thanks for your time and looking forward to adding to the wealth of information here!

hey there , i just use power dvd and Photoshop , and I think most people here use that
in Power Dvd You can make a screencapture , and then paste it in photoshop, then adjust its size and stuff.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have Power DVD that came installed on my Dell and I've tried looking around for a screen cap function but I couldn't find any. Can you be a little more specific?
Thanks

There's gotta be a button shaped like an old fashioned photocamera. During a Scene with the character you want a cap from just press it very often. PowerDVD has a 'Screencaps' folder. Go there, and pick the nicest one to anhance and resize in Photoshop!

Also adjust the directory in your options menu to specify where the screenshot will be stored.

There's no need for the latter if you have Photoshop opened already. In that case you will need to make a new file (control + n) and paste (control + v). Also, instead of hitting the capture button often, you can pause the movie somewhere near the place of the scene you want to make a capture of. There's an option that lets you go forward one frame at a time. You can also slow down to 1/2nd, 1/4th or 1/8th of the normal playing speed to get to where you want to go. For some additional info, also see this topic.

I have Power DVD that came installed on my Dell and I've tried looking around for a screen cap function but I couldn't find any. My Power DVD control bar doesn't look like that. I'm running version 5.5.1423 if that helps at all. I've turned the program inside out it seems like and there's absolutely nothing I can find about screen caps. Thanks for all the help so far guys. Any more suggestions?

gmess,
If there isn't a camera type icon that looks like this on your panel, then I'm VERY surprised.
But you didn't find it, so consider me surprised.
Regardless, the easiest thing to do would be to pick up PowerDVD version 6.0 on ebay. It's only a dollar plus postage...

Yeah this version that came pre-installed pretty much has the play function and that's about it. Real basic with no extras. Thanks for letting me know what version to look for.
Thanks again for all the help everybody, and if you have any more tips, please keep them coming.
