What bothers me the most is this:
He says that he never had any confidence in ScreenHeroes and he is a 'con-expert'.
Well....now I'm curious why he wanted to help the ScreenHeroes-crew? He wanted to be a part of the show! Strange thing when you 'never had any confidence!'
Ow, he says that autographs are 20-25 pounds at Collectormania. Misleading info: most are 15, some 20. Only the real big ones (Fisher, Shatner) are 25.
Let's go on: he says that no show in the Netherlands had 2000 visitors! Well, ScreenHeroes had 2000....(that's an official fact!)
Big guests ARE possible! EchoBaseCon had Irvin Kershner; one of THE biggest StarWars guests imaginable. Result: the con was a success. First EchoBaseCon had Anthony Daniels....also a success And what about Robert Englund? This guy has a huge fanbase and has been here twice! Thomas has signed Larry Hagman for NSC5; a TV-icon!! It all depends on what you think is 'big' though...
If you don't believe big guests can come...then it won't happen. If you continue to contract lesser known actors; then cons in the Netherlands will never attract many (1000+) people. I agree that names like SM Gellar, Tarantino etc can't come...but they don't do UK cons too!
About the ScreenHeroes bashing: at least the organizers had the guts to gamble and get some big-name actors. There had never been a con like this in the netherlands, and if Mr. RdG (or RdB?) hadn't been a fraud; who knows what might have happened?
To quote Vade Darker: 'Never shot is always a miss'. They tried, and every visitor who came on saturday (and didn't go to the VIP party) got what they wanted: loads of cool actors.
PS: a real con-expert would NEVER, EVER plan his show on the same day most people celebrate 'Sinterklaas' (mike: this is a dutch holiday).....
I don't know what he tries to achieve with this....this doesn't suit him...

I think that if Mr Rdg(or RdB?) hadn't been a fraud no big-name actor would have come to Screenheroes. Maybe 2 or 3 but not the amounts as seen at Screenheroes in September...

Although I think the mail was strange too, I think what he was trying to do, was explain his choice of guests, which some people don't consider to be big enough. I do think one of the problems is that most of these cons are really sci-fi orientated, which would be a problem in reaching a bigger audience. I'm sure, apart from die-hard fans, nobody's really interested in the guy that was in the purple alien suit in the SW bar scene.

My opinion is that series like Allo Allo haven't got a big fanbase and therefore don't attract a large crowd. Besides that: I don't think that Allo Allo fans in general go to cons. Ok, there are always a few, but not many. A lesser known StarTrek actor attracts loads of Trekkies (HUGE fanbase!). Trek, SW & LotR have the largest fanbase in the Netherlands. Maybe the mail was meant as an early apology for that fact that the con will be cancelled again due to disappointing ticketsales? I mean, NSC5 is in the same month and they've got some neat guests (not everyone is my cup of tea, but still: they're well-known actors in general) My 2 cents.

I would go to DSC over NSC5 for sure. But that's due to personal taste.
At least they have 2 Buffy guests - Whedonverse is also big in Holland.
And some Star Wars guests. So I think they do attract to different fans.
As for Allo Allo - I just love em !!!

Ok, there are always a few, but not many. Oh sure, I wasn't implying the Allo Allo guests were a good thing, I was just talking in general. I think the way NSC is getting guests is the way to go, they truly try to get people that are popular more over, but then Thomas probably has more money to work with.

From the Newsletter:
Can we conclude from this that less than 50 tickets have been sold at this moment?

I mean I will go to this con if it continues BUT I'm waiting to buy tickets after some other con cancelations and stuff I heard (cons abroad and in Netherlands).
