Atheon,
I agree with you that some other software may work, but will cost just as much. I also see the point you are making about using other methods to get nice pics.
robert,
I don't know the difference between 400 to 500 lines vertically vs. 3,000 lines, but I do know that you can print 8x10 quality photos at 300 dpi (unless the dvd picture quality sucks to begin with), and you can tell a distinct loss of quality in the 8x10's at only 200 dpi.
As for the program, I think you are confusing theory vs. application. I AGREE completely that many graphics programs out there can handle 300dpi images. My point is that you have to be able to IMPORT these images from PowerDVD to the editing graphics program. Again, I say that Photoshop is the only program that I have found that will let you import photos from PowerDVD at 300dpi. The best I've done with other programs are 200dpi.
If you can find a cheaper program out there that will let you import screenshots from PowerDVD at 300 dpi, then I'd be VERY intested in finding out what it is.

The whole image is 1024x576 pixels max to begin with in powerdvd, which translates at about 100dpi. How do you import that at 300 dpi? I work with Photoshop everyday, and the only way to get it to 300dpi for an 8x10, would be to scale it up, which isn't the same as importing it at that resolution. And scaling up isn't that different among the photo editing applications. Maybe the truly bargain bin programs would suck at that, but a program like PhotoFiltre, which is free, is as good as Photoshop.

Okay, without reading the whole tread, here's a tip I us in photoshop. I take screendumps with PowerDVD and resize them 110%, then resize them again 110% Do that a couple of times and you notice the quality hardly reduces.

Don't understand what most of you are saying, but here's what I do and I guess most of you 2: I make a cap from the DVD (which is 720x576 @ 2,5 dpi/inch (sometimes I hear people have 72 dpi/inch or 96 dpi/inch, don't understand why, but that's not the point). I open it in Photoshop, change the resolution to 300 dpi/inch, resize it, save it and voila. A good quality photo to print.

Guys... I thought this topic was for Photo-REQUESTS!? Why don't you make a new thread about Photo-editing?

Thanks, I did found the second one and the third one, but don't think they're that great. The first one is a nice one. But I want a portait-photo of him. An official one. I will keep this one as a backup

I really have good portrait pictures of him. I already searched for some photos and I found some nice ones in a book. If you can tell me how to attach them here I can place them.
