Boy, you guys must all be very religious. So from now on we'll assume that every single autograph is real, as there's no way to prove otherwise?

Nah, I say as Twisted Sister "I belive in rock n' roll". Why assume anything as long as long as you don't know? I find "assuming" a bad thing. Is it better to assume it's fake then to assume it's legit? If so, who's the judge of that? If someone get a TTM success why not just congratulate them on the success for what it's worth?

Believe me I won't ever comment on the authenticity of anything again. I'd rather bash my head against a brick wall. Personally for me the only thing worse than getting a fake autograph is getting a fake autograph and not knowing it's fake. If someone get a TTM success why not just congratulate them on the success for what it's worth? For the same reason I don't congratulate the person not finishing the race. It's not a success if it's fake. Even then I wasn't bitchy or anything about it, as it sucks to get fakes. I should know as my very first TTM success was a fake and it made me very suspicious of any since. - edited to acknowledge Mike's feelings.

rdr,
I think it would be more appropriate to bash your head against a pool wall.
I couldn't agree more. I've gotten bad sigs that I thought were real and felt the fool when I discovered the truth.
If somebody posts a signature on here that I am knowledgeable about, I will offer an opinion. But they can feel however they want afterwards.

What my basic feelings comes down to is : Are you skilled enough to know a fake from a legit autograph?Or will you call it fake from heresay and "what you've heard from others"? If so, you should be a bit carefull. Remember, someone might be very happy with the TTM they've got. No need to stamp down on their happiness unless you know it's fake for sure. Please don't take this personally, I'm talking in general, but there are way to many "pool pissers" out there. Once someone get a TTM success they stand ready with their axe waiting to chop the head of whoever got the TTM calling it fake. I actually belive some people take pleassure in knocking down on other peoples successes. Now that I really DO mind. Again, this is not aimed at anybody here per-se but there are people like this.
But RDR, once I posted my Harrison Ford auto on these boards you were pretty quick with a comment about it. I belive your words where "I'm not even gonna touch this one". Right away spreading uncertainty over the signature. The autograph was obtained from one of the most respected autos dealers on this earth, Autographworld, and I have NO reason to belive they will risk their reputation for one single Harrison Ford autograph.
And again, you should know that signatures varies ALOT. I've seen celebs write a line instead of their name. What are you gonna do? Let's say Ford signed that way, should you call him back and tell him that you've seen his signature before and the one he wrote looks nothing like it? A signature is infact whatever the person writes down in his own handwriting for his name... no matter how crappy it might look (or how much it varies from a "usual pattern).
To finish up, do I hate a fake signature? Heck yeah, every bit as much as all you other guys. I have gained some knowledge to tell fakes from the real deals. That knowledge I need for my own collecting. If someone asks for my opinion, fine I'll give it to them. Other then that I pretty much keep it to myself. Collecting autographs is for you own pleassure, not to satisfiy other collectors. If you are happy with what you get, that's just fine...

Well actually you read more into that than I meant. I made fun of Duke's autograph for the fact he said basically all were fake except his, so when days later you got yours I made that remark. I don't have any opinion on either of those really. What I do know is that there are certain people that have always been known to send out fakes and James Caan is one of them. I did say he was known to have someone sign from him AND his autograph doesn't look like that. I won't ever comment on those kind of people either, since you basically bash me about it. Personally I would find the fact that to congratulate someone with something that's most likely a fake condensending, but we obviously differ on that.

Ok, then perhaps I did read to much into it when you said you weren't even gonna touch it. I'm sure you can understand how that remark can be misread, not only by me, but others aswell. When I read your reply on the James Caan I didn't see that you wrote anything about him being known to send out secreterials. All I read was a "cough fake cough", that you wrote. If you hade written "Caan is known to send out secreterials" or something like that I'm pretty sure your reply wouldn't have caught my eye that much. Instead you went out 100% calling it a fake. And no, I haven't bashed you about anything. And you are right, we do differ. Instead of calling someones autograph fake without knowing that for certain I would prob not say anything (no, not congratulate them either).

Well the fact that he is known to have someone sign from him and this doesn't look like his autograph. In fact it looks like the generic poolboy type. CLICKAnd I was the only one to congratulate you on your Harrison Ford, which I already said I wouldn't have done if I thought it was fake. And in fact my initial reaction here was no different than of most, including the moderators, here. This really isn't known to be a sensitive board. I should know, as I've had many not so nice remarks made on my autographs.

As I said earlier, maybe I misread it then., Anyway, if so, thanks for congratulating me on it. Sorry to hear that you've had not so nice remarks on some of your autographs. You would never get such remarks from me. And that is pretty much my point with this whole discussion. I know some people might throw some "that's a poolboy" remarks just for fun, not meaning anything by it. But what it does is making people who don't get their form of humor skeptic on the success. And if you ask me, THAT is a bad thing.
