Wow, what day !!!
Ever since I heard Jonathan Demme would come to Vlissingen, I wanted to go to Film by the Sea. He's only the director of Silence of the Lambs !!! Well I thought I couldn't go because I had to work. But then two days ago my manager told me I got the day off. And seeing as I also had a day off from school, I decided to go anyway !!!
Yesterday, Thursday, Jonathan would be awarded a Life Time Achievement Award and his new movie about Neil Young would premiere. After a long delay with the trains, I arrved a little later then expected. Luckily I was taken to the festival site directly from the train station by one of my best friends who lives in Vlissingen. After talking to one of the staff members I found out that Jonathan was about to arrive any minute. I also noticed I was the only sig hunter at the spot.
So when Mr Demme arrived with his manager, I asked him for an autograph. He was such a friendly guy. I told him I was a fan of his work (which I am) and that I had to travel for hours to see him (which I did). And of course I congratulated him on his award. His manager asked me, or was it Rene Mioch who was with them, if I was going to see the premiere. I told her I didn't have a ticket, to which she replied I had to wait outside for ten minutes.
She came back with two free tickets for me and my friend. And they weren't just any tickets, they were the tickets of Jonathan Demme and herself. I got Jonathan's ticket. She told me that Jonathan had to give an acceptance speech for the award, and then they would leave so we could take their seats. That was just so cool.
So we went inside and when we passed Jonathan on the front row he talked to me again, and shook my hand for the second time that day. After that we took some seats higher up to the back. During his speech I noticed the manager looking back to the seats behind her as if she was looking for us. She then walked up to where we were sitting at the end of his speech, and beckoned us to move back down again. After that we sat down in their seat. I sat in Jonathan's seat, and my friend in the seat of his manager.
After seeing most of the movie, we snuck out early, as I had a train to catch. And now I'm home again after one hell of a cool experience.
