Horror movie, weak storyline? Did any of the Friday movies have a great storyline or the the Dead movies or Texas Chainsaw Massacre? I don't think it was ever made to be a big thriller with a layered storyline. Still it did make me want to see it to the end. I think the biggest problem is the budget and it shows.

All those movies have the same pattern pretty much. Bunch of "teenagers" are on their own in the "wilderness" (read. by the lake, in the woods, in a cabbin in the woods etc.). I belive they follow a certaind standard for Horror movies. Of course the Friday movies moves away from that standard as they made a bunch of them.
I certainly would never reckon Hostel as a horror movie as good as the ones mentioned. If I am to see it again I might as well fast forward to the end of the movie.
But I do agree that with a bigger budget they could have made it better (gotten some ok actors would have been a start).

Miami Vice:
It's ok and sometimes even exciting. Not a fan of the original series so don't care if it's nothing like it. In fact I applaud it.
However, the plot was missing sometimes and the camerawork just plane sucks. it worked for Collateral as it was a one on one movie and played out in one night and it was a dark movie, but not for this one. The quality of the scenes also switch a lot from clear to very gritty and snowy every 5 minutes or so. If I want to see a homevideo quality I would have downloaded a movie instead of seeing this on the big screen.

I saw Miami Vice yesterday. It is obviously filmed on video, I even saw static at times. Probably trying to get the feeling of the tv series across.

As an action-film: Nice one! If they only had come up with a better story-line. And it actually got almost nothing to do with the series. Only the names of Tubbs en Crockett and the city Miami. That's it! And: WHERE WAS ELVIS?!?

Saw this one at work just a few minutes ago (damn i love my job): I Always Know What You Did Last Summer. Don't expect too much of it if you think it's the same as the first two, but if you watch it with an open mind, it's a nice popcorn, slasher, "horror" movie Gonna watch "The Hills have Eyes" in a sec

Yesterday:
You, Me and Dupree. The film doesn't know what it wants to be, drama, comedy? I don't know
The Da Vinci Code finally! but was very bored with it all. Saw it coming from miles away and the characters were flat.
The Hills have Eyes. It made me laugh. Very much so. Don't know if that was the intention of the creators though.
